Commerce City police are investigating today whether a 20-year-old man accidentally shot himself during a poker game early Tuesday morning.
The victim, whose name was not released, is in grave condition at St. Joseph's Medical Cente, police said.
Police received a call at about 2:30 a.m. of a shooting in house in the 7000 block of Leyden Street. The man was shot in the head and friends took him to the hospital. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and have not ruled out attempted suicide.
"We are still putting the pieces together. We are not ruling out other possibilities," said Detective Mike Saunders of the Commerce City Police.

If Doggie was playing in the game, it prolly was a situation where Doggie sucked out on the river again!?!?!?!
I heard a story about an incident last week at one of the social clubs where a couple of attorneys were playing and were up quite a bit. When they attempted to leave the game (before their 2 hour minimum time had expired) on of the regulars pulled a gun and placed it on the table saying, "your time is not up yet."
Needless to say, the guys stayed their remaining 20-25 minutes...folded every hand till their time was up.
What kind of place is this?????

I'm pretty leery of playing games with more strangers than friends for reasons like these two stories. I like playing poker, I like winning, but the money never matters and I only play stakes where that is the rule.
We had a low stakes .50/$1 dealer calls game with 12 people on two tables. One guy bought $30. He bought $30 more. He bought $50 more. He kept going until he was down $300. Being a friendly game with people I know and like, I was winning most of the night, so I stayed in hands he was in, trying to give some back and nothing could help him. I would hit late or he was trying to push people out and steal a pot and he just wouldn't stop. When I said one hour left, he was mad because he thought he could reclaim his losses. Of course in the last hour he lost even more. His anger was obvious but you have to know when to say when. One girl who played lost her first $20 in fifteen or twenty hands and she got up, said it wasn't her night, and went home. It's easy to do. But I can imagine, since I was up about $250 after all was said and done, if we didn't know this guy on a personal level he might resort to aggression or pulling a gun because of how pissed he was. That is pure lunacy. It is just a game.

Just be glad you did not have an ATM at your house...he would have lost even more money..lol.
ps. I let Doggie bring an ATM with him to our home games. He withdraws money faster than we can pass the deal. lol. .................Sorry Doggie!!

"stories" like this one can really hurt poker. This is a unsubstantiated story and should not be passed around. If you have played any poker out in the local scene, you know that the cops are comming down on underground poker. Why help fuel the fire with garbage storeis like this?

why not let your fellow poker players know to keep their eyes open, and be careful of where they play and with who? I don't see that as a bad thing, or as fueling any fires.

Garbage stories.....a friend of mine was the dealer at the table. So, call it what you will. I got it from a person who was involved in the game.
