AM950 The Fan is holding a weekly poker tournament on Thursday nights (7pm).

$60+10, max 66 players.

Pays 6 places. Top 3 will win money and qualify for the finals. Winner of the finals gets a trip to Vegas (Bellagio) and a seat in the WPT Bellagio Five Diamond satellite (I think buy-in is $1,500).

The $1,500 buy-in is for a satellite tournament.

This is for a seat into a satallite tourney for a chance to win a seat at the 25,000.00 tourney.

Anyone going up on Thursday???

Actually I think it is for the $10,000 buy in at Bellagio. It is the 5 Diamond classic not the WPT Championship. It is a satelitte seat you are playing for at Gilpin

OK so we were both wrong. The buy-in for the Five Diamond is 15,000 + 300. About a 1.5 million prize pool. I was thinking of going to the Gilpin for this but I want to wait and let the first one go so I can try and get more info, such as how soon you really need to be up there for signup if you are to be one of only 66 players in the tourney. It will probably fill up pretty quick. If anyone does go tomorrow, please tell us about it.

It's also noted on AM950's website is that the prize pool to the satellite you will be entered in is $150,000. $1,500 @ 100 players? If you win that, you are entered in the actual WPT tournament.

I was seriously thinking about going up tomorrow, but I've decided not to go.

I'm not really a tournament (or no-limit) player, but I was thinking maybe I'd start taking a shot at some of these tournaments and get some experience and I was thinking maybe I'll head up there for this one tonight. Does anyone know if the structure is any good, or can you comment on the general quality of the Gilpin's tournaments? I e-mailed the Gilpin, but haven't heard back from them - it's been a couple days.

Not sure... haven't checked out the tourneys yet... but if you go to their website and sign up for their poker newsletter, you will get a $5 coupon for use on tourney fees :D

I've played in a few Sit n' Go and one multi-table tournament.

Sit 'n Go - Your typical 10-person, single-table tournament. For the $40+5, you are given 1000 chips and the blinds start at 25-50, going up every 20 minutes. There is a break every third round. Pays top 3. It typically takes about 90-120 minutes to play to the end.

One variation that was played was a 20-person Sit 'n Go (due to demand). It played like a regular (meltdown) tournament. People were moved if a table was short, and everyone combined to one table once it was down to 10 players. This one took about three hours.

The only other tournament I played up there was called Hoppin' 44. This is a 4-table, 44-player tournament. 4 tables with 11 people. 1000 in chips, blinds start at 25-50, and 20-minute rounds. The twist is that each table is basically a separate tournament. Once your table only has two people left, play is stopped, until all four tables have two people left. Then those eight people move on to the final table. If you're one of the last two standing at your table, you're in the money. It took about four hours total.

The structure is okay. You don't start with many chips, so you have to play aggressively or catch good cards/flops early on to have a decent chance of cashing.

Alright, I went up there and played in this tournament last night. It ended up just short of the cap, with 61 players. I guess it's the same as their friday night $60+$10 - 1500 starting chips, 25 and 50 blinds to start, and 20-minute rounds. If it holds up like last night, you don't need to get there much in advance to make it in. I was there at 6:05 and I was around the 35th to register. Registration ends at 6:55.

I personally only made it about an hour into the tournament. I was only able to pull in I think 2 or 3 small-ish pots and the blinds caught up to me. I couldn't believe how many people had AA at my table - it must've been 5 or 6 times in the first hour! Once the blinds got to 100 and 200, I only had about 1900 chips and was quickly in an all-in position. I ended up all-in with 6d2d - a bit less than optimal one might say, but it almost did it for me - I ended up with 4 to a flush and an inside straight draw. Overall, I'm not worried about my result. I didn't expect to do much and I really think I did just about all I could do with what I had. The rounds are definitely too short for my taste, but what can I do? I guess I can't really expect the casino to want to run a decent structure and have to put up that much more time and effort for a $70 tournament.

Sounds like I should have made the trip. I decided against going at around 5:00 since I figured that it would already be full. Glad to get this info and will try to make it next week.

Crap. I made sure to look, but I don't remember exactly, I'm sorry. They paid the top 6 places, with the top 3 advancing to the October 6 tournament. I believe 1st got an additional $1300+, 2nd $800-something, and 6th got something like $167.

So am I the only one here who actually played in this tournament? Did anyone go up there last night? Any results?

I played last night - full tourney with 66 players. It paid 6 places with first being around $1100 and sixth around $200.

Have no idea who won. I made the final table with only 2500 chips, the blinds were 500/1000 and my all in didn't work out too well, so I didn't hang around to find out who the winner was. When I left, there was one guy who was a monster chip leader with what looked to be about half the chips.

I thought it was a well run game and plan on going back next week if I have the time.
