Sounds like a good time to check out the Central City Expressway!

A 200 ton rockslide 10 miles west of Golden has closed US Highway 6 through Clear Creek Canyon Tuesday.

The road is closed on the east end in Golden and on the west end just east of the intersection of Highway 6 and Route 119. Jordan says the road will not be open until after it is cleared and inspected by CDOT crews.

I was lucky and went up yesterday to Central Station.

If you have never taken the expressway, it's fun. Nice scenery, really fun turns if you like an adrenaline rush and to push it. Just watch out for the last one. It's WICKED

Expressway? Is that the one that goes out to 36? Can you still get in Via 70 if you go to the exit where Kermits bar is and hang a right? We're going up Thursday after dinner in Denver and I just want to go whichever is quickest.

On I-70, it's the next exit (#243) after the Golden/US 6 exit. There's a huge archway right after you exit the interstate that says (natch) "Central City Expressway".

Thanks :) I think thats the same one where the bar is. Is that quicker than coming in from (i belive its in the Westminster) area off of 36?

You could take the Peak-to-Peak Highway from Boulder, but that'll take forever and a day. Ideally, the quickest way for you would've been US 6 through Golden, but since that's closed, I think your only option is the I-70 way.

Cool, we'll be coming from Ruths Chris steakhouse, so I wasn't sure. We usually take 470 to 6 and that works great, but we've also gone both other ways. Thanks for the heads up :D

If you're on C-470, then I-70 is the way to go.

Thanks to the weather interrupting my golf game, a last-minute decision was made to go to Blackhawk (yeah...they REALLY had to twist my arm!). I took my sister and brother-in-law up there (the two lowest rollers in the world), as well.

We took the Central City Parkway, and it's great! I'm not sure if it actually saves time, but at least you can travel at the speed you like--not what grandma likes to drive! There was one van going about 25mph. I think I would've gone insane had that been on US 6.

Like Patrick says, if you can easily access C-470, then the I-70 route is much faster.
