The first time I play live outside my friends will be somewhere on the Hill in August. My family is coming from NY to visit and they want to check it out.

Where is a good place at least for me for Poker. And a nice over all place for them to see.

I would probably have anywhere from 400-1000 on me. I am more interested in tournaments or sitgos for right now.

Also what aout Cripple Creek?

I've played at the Gilpin poker room a couple of times and I liked it. Very friendly. Their tourney and SnG schedule is on their website.

Still havent gone to the Gilpin, but I play at Mountain High and bring visitors there b/c I feel it has the most "Colorado" feel compared to the other casinos ~ high ceilings with log beams, etc... they also have daily tourneys ~ you may be turned off to the "no fold em hold em" strategy in the limit games but I love the tourneys!

I haven't been to any gambling town other than Cripple Creek and it's pretty cool. They've really maintained the old vibe (outside of the first casino you see when you drive in) of the town. And it has tourist stuff besides just gambling. They have a mine tour (which I actually took last week, 1000 feet underground in a real gold mine, quite bizarre but cool), and a turn of the century narrow gauge railroad trip around the town and surrounding gold mines.

For live poker I love the Double Eagle (the big obnoxious new looking casino at the entrance to the town) and for tournaments the Midnight Rose. They have tournaments every day/night except on Saturdays I think. Mon-Thu are evenings, Friday is a freeroll at noon and Sunday is at noon I think. And honestly, I think that any decent poker player can make a killing at the live tables. Play only good cards, fold em if they aren't winners, but maximize the pot when they are. I was up there for three days last week and every live table I played at I won $100 or more over three or four hours.

And there are ten or twelve really cool casinos with slots and a couple of really good places to eat (I always eat at Colorado Grande because they're open at 1 am when I'm ready to eat).

And again, I haven't been to Blackhawk or Central City and they may have great drives, but the drive from Divide to Cripple Creek is truly stunning. Great views of mountain ranges, in and out of valleys, riding on the edge of wonderful mountainsides, rivers and lakes, it's just really pretty.

Anyways, that's my two cents about my personal gambling town, :).

Regardless of where you go, I hope you and your family have a great time!

I'm with you on CC... its so much closer to the Springs, so thats where we usually go. The drive is nice, but watch out for old folks sight seeing on their way, it really sucks driving up the mountian roads at 30mph.

Double Eagle is what I would call the best all around casino up there. Spacious, not too noisy, and probably the nicest poker dealers in town. Free food for the poker players, and pretty generous comps for the slot players.

If you want small, try Bronco Billy's.. they have only 2 tables, but their dealers are real nice, and the floor is always great.

I'm not a huge fan of the Rose mostly because of the average age of the players, and the fact that every table I've sat at there had a prop playing.

I've only played at the Gilpin in Blackhawk, and only once. I liked it, but can't say much more about that. The slots are better in Blackhawk, but the drive isn't quite as nice.

Are we going to start with that age thing again? :D What's the average age?

 Well... being a younger guy I tend to like playing with people a little closer to my age... Just usually is more fun... They talk and laugh more. The players at the Double Eagle are usually younger than the players at the Rose. Probably mid 20's to mid 40's on average, I'd say the players at the Rose are probably 30's to 50's on average. Atleast when I've been there. But I like taking money from anyone, regardless of age

The nice thing about Blackhawk is how close a lot of the casinos are. You can walk from Mountain High to The Lodge to Fitzgerald's, and all of the tiny casinos in-between.

For poker, I'd highly recommend The Gilpin. But you can't really go wrong with Mountain High or The Lodge.
