I went to the Gilpin Casino last Saturday (4/16).

This is my review of the room...Right now there are more negatives than positives, but please read my comments at the end of my review...

First the positives of the room...

** Nice size room with a smoking and non-smoking section that don't overlap. Its nice not to breath everyones smoke.

** Nice new tables that don't have spills and runs everywhere.

Now for the negatives...

** The cocktail waitress...The one that I had didn't have a clue and had to wait 45 minutes for a drink.

** Elevator up to poker room...Its small and slow and there didn't seem to be any other way to get to the poker room. (yes i know there probably was, but i didn't see it)

** The lighting was poor. It was hard for me to see the cards that I was playing with.

** My table was playing 4 handed and another table was 5 handed....the tables (both 2/4) stayed live and did not combine. The problem with this is that the pots were small and not a lot of action.

** The dealers were bad! I had a dealer on my table looking at players hand in the muck...It took them a couple of minutes to deal one hand...

I've ranted enough. Thanks to all who listened to me. In closing I will say this. In all fairness to the Gilpin, its a new poker room with a lot of bugs to be worked out. In time I think it may be one of the better poker rooms in Blackhawk. So I think that I will check out the room in a couple of months....I'd be interested to see what everyone else has to say....

Thanks for the review.

I'll agree with you on the cocktail waitresses. Sometimes, one always seems to be roaming around and getting drinks to you pretty quick; other time, they disappear for 30-45 minutes.

Yes, the elevator is slow, but it's no biggie to me. Rarely is there more than 4 people going up or down at the same time. Next time I go there, I'll inquire if there are stairs going up to the 3rd floor.

You probably should've asked the dealer and/or floor manager about combining both tables. The floor managers I've dealt with have been very responsive to my questions and requests. One issue could be that one was in the non-smoking section, and the other was in the smoking section. I personally would have gotten up and sat at the table of 5, regardless of what section it was in.

There are stairs... As you leave the poker rooms double doors take a quick right and that leads you to the stairs...they bring you out by the soda machine on the slots floor I believe. Good place to go cuss yourself or the other players since hardly anyone ever uses them!
