Just wondering,
What do people look for at a game to judge how good it is. Is it the game itself that makes or breaks the night or do the extra's (i.e. food, good dealers, quality chips, tourney payouts) make a certain game that much better? I provide some snacks along with soda, beer and bottled water at my games and It sees to go over OK. I know that when I play I drink tons of bottled water. I've been to a few games where the hosts have a barbecue and also seen some where almost nothing was provided but a table. When it comes down to it (for me) I think the game itself should be the determiner of a good place to play, but its still nice to have a few extra's provided. What do you guys think?

Fun people + cold beer = great poker game. Everything else is irrelevant.

I stated it in another thread. We all BYOB and BYOF (food) or CFAP (chip-in for a pizza). If the host is generous enough to provide beer and/or food, all he wants at the end of the evening is a thank you and handshake.

I have to agree. The main reason I have games in the first place is to get together with friends and have a good time. Sure winning a little money would be nice but to me at least, that is secondary where my game is concerned. It's a good thing too because I never win at my games. I'm too busy trying to see that all goes smoothly and that people have a good time to concentrate much on the cards themselves. I always supply food and just have everyone BYOB. I enjoy hosting the games or believe me, I wouldn't do it. (see Saturday under "Newman's 50th Birthday" for info on my next game.)
