What would you think about playing in a home game where there was a single dealer using an automatic card shuffler instead of passing the deal and the shuffles? I don't mind dealing at all, even when I'm playing, and it always seems to be a hastle when passing the deal, getting the cards shuffled, etc. so I was thinking about trying it at my next game. Think that's a stupid idea? Just out of curiosity, and if you have read any of my posts you know I'm a pretty darned curious person, I checked into the DeckMate shufflers they are using now on some of the big televised events. They are really cool and would look great flush mounted in my table but alas they are probably very expensive and besides, they are not available to regular consumers, only licensed casinos.

I personally do not see a problem, but you dont see that very many places. I was wondering if poker is just one of those games you need a physical dealer and shuffler. If there is any reason against it I would wonder that myself!

Nope, don't think it's a bad idea. Kicked it around myself just couldn't get the logistics to work. Where to put the shuffler when playing? Usually not enough room on the table, especially with 11 or so at the table. Second those darn things can be LOUD, be sure if you invest get one that is quiet, very annoying.

At my game we usually just have two different color of decks and the small blind shuffles the previous deck to use when its their turn to deal. They usualy have time as the bets are going around and then if they fold they really have time. Besides, some people, I have found (ok its me ) really get a kick out of dealing, so let them give it a whirl.

This works out great. Played at Nielsco and this kept the game moving nicely.
