how can colorado be called "a poker state" when the max bet is $5, so that the only real legal poker games are 2/5 and 5/5? that would be like calling utah an alcohol state.

thats my point the Casinos do nothing to bring these kind of events here....but that dose rase a good point even if the casinos had high stakes games 20/40 30/60 and such who would play them. most people that play in blackhawk or CC live in Colorado. They are not much of a torriest desantions. not like Vages, Reno, or A.C. but still i would love to play one of these events and not have to travel half way across the country. but im a just a winer lol

Until the laws change, Black Hawk and Central City can't up the ante...Colorado will never have a no limit tourney until a law is passed.

I know all the casinos would love to have that $5 limit removed.

maybe for games like blackjack, but i bet they're fine with the $5 limit on poker. casinos make more money from low limit games, and with the way the $5 limit leads people to play up there (ie, getting odds once the turn comes to chase everything to the river, chasing all kinds of crap looking for a bad beat, etc.), i bet the casinos are perfectly happy (more action = bigger pots = more rake).

Games would be a lot better with more serious players if the stakes were higher. Right now, it is hard to even play in BlackHawk because people are just playing to play, they will play almost any hand.

some people look at that as an disaventage. but so far. out of the newbies i have played aginest there tells are so easy to pick up. Se everyone who plays poker for more then jsut a game. Knows that even the best players have tells. Its just they can hide theres more. An easy player might be hard to put on a hand but if you just sit and play and witch the players act there tell will lead yoy to know where or not they got a hand. The hard part is ifyou know they got a hand, what kind of hand do they have. That is where most have truble. Cause its ture players that have no real poker experance will play any hand. So all you can do is watch for there tells to see if they have a hand and then play it right.

I go to Blackhawk about once or month or so, sometimes more, lately a little less. I have had one losing session since I started going, and made that up by stopping by the 3 card poker table (Horrible odds, but fun) as I was leaving. Hit a quick 200 sitting there for about 45 minutes.

I would say the majority of players (2-5 table) are noobs, and they show it and will play anything, and you will get sucked out at times. I also think these people are easy to beat. I sat at a table back in July with 4 people (all of who knew each other) who were on vacation and the first words out of one mouth was:

"I have been watching this game on TV and figured it would be fun to try it out."

This guy and the rest of his party (his wife and another couple) dropped about $900 in the 3 hours they were there. I walked away with about $500 of that.

They played just about every hand (No exaggeration). They called to the end at least 70% of the time maybe more. They had more tells then you could imagine.

Yes, I was lucky to sit at such a loose table, but this type of thing is not that uncommon.

If you stick to playing smart poker, you can win there most of the time. No one wins everytime, sometimes the cards just plain suck.

One big thing - do not try to bluff - you will get callers more often than not and most times you will not win.

I agree...if you want to have some fun with some real money, try the Hill. Most everybody will play you out. And for $5max, most of the table will play you out. But just like the free tournaments, a lot of people will buy their cards, and it seems, they always buy the River and beat the "smart" players. But if you pay attention, you can come away with some $$$. When I say $$$, I mean $100 or less, unless you sit all day and wait for the "tourists". Still fun. Either way it is a crap shoot........no pun intended
