man, poker has got to be one of the best things on earth. me and a group of my friends (all of us in the restaurant industry) get together every wednesday night and play no limit hold em ($10 buy-in). there is usually about 13 of us, because that is all of the chips i have for right now. we usually end up playing from 6 pm until early the next morning. last week we played until 7 am. good times. if anyone knows of a good place to buy poker table felt to put down on a table let me know. i tried using normal felt but it beaded up too much.

You might try a billiard supply store. We use pool table cloth with some thin padding under it for our games and it works out well. Also you can get it in dozens of colors if you want to try something besides green.

thanks for the help. i thought about using billiard felt, but its a completly different type of felt. i know it wouldnt bead up as much as the normal felt, but its not as smooth either. poker felt is a lot more like carpet. I just cant seem to find anyone that knows where to find it.

nother question, whats up with antes, and big blinds? thats not how the pros do it is it? just another way to get the games going quicker is that it?

The pros play with Blinds, there is a dealer button that passes from one player to the next counter clock wise around the table. The person to the left of the button has to pay the small blind and the player to the left of the small has to pay the big blind.

Blinds are used to guarantee play. Players who have to pay are more likely to play their hand rather than fold it.

Antes are usually played for the same reason just more at a home game to make the pots bigger.

as well as antes are used in tourys once there a small number of players playing this is to insure that player just sit and play only blind hands. kind of a u better play or go broke kind of tactic
