I spoke with a guy at the Boston's DPP tournament tonight. Of course, I told him about denverpoker.com ;)
He and some investors are in the process of applying for a casino license to open up an 8-table poker room in Blackhawk. Poker, period (well, there will be a bar). It's a very small, narrow building near the Fitz. They hope to be open by June.
Right now, it will only have sit-and-go tournaments with buy-in's ranging from $10-500. If there's enough demand, he said he might open a few tables for limit games.
Let's see how this pans out....
That could be very interesting. The card rooms in Cali are going gangbusters right now and I for one would appreciate sitting in a game where 'Wheel Of Fortune' isn't blasted into my ears endlessly :(

Thanks for the info Swede. A Poker only "casino", you gotta love it.

Does the place have a name yet? Speaking of sit and go tournaments does anybody in blackhawk have any now or will they be the first?

No name yet.
Yes, I believe they would be the first to offer "sit-and-go" tournaments...unless the Gilpin decides to try them out.

I've just moved here from Los Angeles where it's about 95% poker only, and you're right - it's definitely better than having Wheel Of Fortune blasting in your ears all day long. And, becuase we're not competing with slot and table players, we get treated very well. The rooms that go out of their way to get people in and keep them in do extremely well.

I play regularly with one of these investors, when I see him this Saturday I'll see if I can get any updates...

I'm not sure how anyone would be able to show good cash flow on poker only, unless the rent is rock bottom. There's a reason casinos are full of slots - on a per square foot basis, they are incredible cash cows.
As for not wanting to hear WOF blasting in the background, I completely agree. That's what the Gilpin is for. :D

Good point. I would be interested at what they are going to be charging for juice?

Is there any update on this yet? A name of casino? More info on what types of tourneys they are going to be hosting up there? A timeline for opening?
