Here are two questions in regards to assigned seating at poker tournaments.

(1) At Fat City, everyone had to draw cards to see what table they were at. The cards were aces through tens, with the table number written at the top. To me, it sounded like it meant Table #, Seat #. However, no one said anything about that, and people sat where they liked at the table. Plus, the whole dealing thing would've messed it up anyways. Were those cards meant as assigned seating?

(2) At DPP, you are given a card with the table and seat number writter on it. Last night, I was table 5, seat 4. When I get to the table, the guy who is sitting in seat 3 is in seat 4, and the guy who is in seat 2 is in seat 3. I thought it might be an honest mistake. I ask the gentlemen to scoot down one seat. The guy currently in seat 3 says, "do you really want your seat? Does it really matter?" I reply it does matter. He shakes his head, mutters loudly to the guy next to him, "What an a**hole," and moves down one seat. Was I in the wrong to ask for my assigned seat?

It was obvious this was his first tournament. On the very first hand of the night, he calls an all-in with T4os on the river because there's a T on the board. He got beat by four queens. Karma's a b**ch, eh?

Fat city does need to clear that up, since there is no "Dealer" spot seat one could be on either side of the table. Our table had a good plan...after we were all there, the Ace or 1 card picked her seat then we all sat in order after her.
I do not think you were wrong to ask for your assigned seat at all, but Fat City should have cleared that up better.

We had that 'issue' at FatCity also. The Ace sat at the seat where they happened to drop the dealer button, in reality, seat 8. I mentioned it and this one 'Poker Genius' said there is NO SEAT 1 in a poker game

Dang, and all this time I thought it was the first seat after the dealers spot :D

Fortunately his poker playing skills equalled his game knowledge and he busted out first in a very few minutes

Actually at my table at Fat City there were 2 table 8s (written on the card) AND 2 8 of hearts. So, to me, the number on the card played no role on seat placement (although it should)

I think assigned seating can be a big deal, but not always. If they are doing it on a random basis then yes it is a big deal. Like DPP if some friends want to sit next to each other, then maybe(not always) we should go ahead and let them. I am one that doesnt totally care. I sit with who I sit with!

Does it really matter who you sit by. Unless these "friends" are passing signals to each other (which can be done from across the table as well), what does it matter. You can take their money just as easily no matter where they sit.
