Is anyone familiar with the Turbo Texas Hold'em software that is available to supposedly help you improve your poker skills? Have you seen it, used it, or know anyone that has? I've read a lot of good "testimonials" and reviews but don't know if they are just hype to sell the product. Thanks.

I've played with it..... Its pretty good, but it is difficult to design software that plays like real people. It is very good at teaching calculation of pot odds, drawing odds, etc. The opponents are able to be customized, (not as loose as blackhawk though.) And it is only limit hold'em, but can be set for different limits (spread limit) and caps. I think its better for new players, to focus on the fundamentals, rather than those trying to refine their game.

I agree with Vandal. Turbo Texas Hold'em will help you to an extent, but there is nothing more beneficial than playing against real people.

Thanks. Maybe you saved me $90 that I will someday lose to you. There is another module, Turbo Tournament, that I think will let you play No-Limit, but I'm not sure. Thanks again for the input.

I know blockbuster has it... (only for PS2 as far as I can tell) It looks to be pretty weak, I know you can play online with other people, which will likely make it like a free money game at any poker site.... Not the best... BUT... I have NOT played it, so I could be wrong...

How about Donahoe Digital's DD Tournament Poker? Annie Duke endorses it, for what that's worth. It sells for something like $30.
Supposed to have a tournament manager package included.

I have this, and I must say it's not terrible, I got it for $20 and I'd say it's worth the money....
trying to get through the 2600 people at the 04 WSOP Maint event is near impossible...

I've tried Poki Poker's software - Poker Academy and it's pretty good. I haven't tried Turbo and have used DD Tournament but it's not that great.

Mike Caro has something called "Poker Probe." Supposedly it's pretty low-tech and it sells for $60-70. Doyle Brunson has mentioned it. Anyone tried it?

Leave it to Doggie to talk about probing!?!?!?!

I used Poker Probe for years up until a few years ago. Unlike many of Caro's projects, it was actually finished, although it was written over 10 years ago as a DOS program.
It's main feature is the ability to calculate the EV of any situation, but this functionality can be had for free from sites like twodimes and cardplayer. It also has some other "features": a "game" where you try to pick which hand out of a few has the best EV, and a separate playability index where he created some algorythm that predicts how "playable" a certain hand is compared to the others you run it against.
Anachronistic, never updated, too expensive, I'd take a pass Wetdog. I'm surprised it's still for sale.
For roll-your-own analysis, there's an open source project a couple of my buddies created a few years ago. Andrew Prock's pokerstove (http://pokerstove.com) is based on this code and gives you more options than you could ever want.

Circuit City has DD Tournament Poker: No Limit Texas Hold'Em for $9.99 this week.
If you're a slave to tax software, buying either TurboTax Deluxe or TaxCut Deluxe will score you a $15 gift card when you check out. Then you can go back and buy it with the gift card. I still have $4.36 left on it. :)
The Circuit City at Wadsworth & Belleview had a few copies left.
You can get it for a few cents cheaper if you buy it through Amazon (and pick it up at Circuit City). Link (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0002719LK/qid=1107996254/sr=2-3/ref=pd_ka_b_2_3/104-6625771-2647108)

hi i'm new.
i just bought DD so that i had something to play on my new MAC. there isn't much available for the macs right now, including almost NO online site compatibilites. However, i can say that i have 3 other poker programs and this is BY FAR the best short of playing with real people. the fact that you can vary difficulties and game styles has already helped my play. i've played the demo version of Turbo Hold 'em and i have to say, for 20 bucks, DD is the better bet.

I have DD Tournament Poker. Gotta say I'm not impressed. Shows pot odds and what not, but players are fixed in their "thinking". Most any raise sends 'em all running. I understand the games from Wilson are decent, but haven't seen them. Having just made the leap into live poker, I can vouch that there is no substitute. idh, I'd love to hear if you win the 04 WSOP. Personally, I would rather get thru 9 players online and collect a few bucks than get thru 2,600 'puter generated players!!!

I have read a lot about a program called Poker Tracker. It keeps stats on all your play from hand histories that you can get from most of the bigger sites. It analyzes your play as well as keeps a database on all the opponents you face. Cost is about $50-60.

I'm a huge fan of Poker Tracker. I especially like that it keeps track of your opponents results too. If you play against the same opponents a lot, you can quickly see who's a winning player and adjust you play accordingly.
There is a caveat to using this software. You really can't make any meaningful statistical observations until you have over 10,000 hands recorded. My recommendation is, if you play online, get it, start collecting hand histories, and forget about it for 3 months. Once your database is built, start mining it for nuggets.
Bottom Line: Highly Recommended!

DD poker is definitely one of the best game that I ever bought.
I also purchased the plug and play texas hold em and it really sucks I'm really disappointed in it. The betting structure is really weird. You can either raise double the big blind or go all in that's it. No raise in between. Please save yourself the $ and play in a tournament for $75.00
Damn
