Hey, This seems to be the first post on this board!!! Broke the Cherry!
A bunch of us where trying to setup a BIG tournament (NLHE) for this fall. We have about 30 guys already lined up and would allow up to 50 or 60 or possibly more.
The only problem we have is WHERE to hold the darn thing.
If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.
The buy in would be about $50 + any expenses for renting a location and food drink, etc. We would pay the top 6-10 depending on the number of people.
If you are interested in playing, reply to this post and I will remember you when we have everything setup. Location would preferably be South Metro/Tech Center
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

No problem. I will keep everyone informed using this thread.
Well there is no doubt that there is a market for this sized tourney. The downtown tourney filled up in something like 90 seconds when the sign up opened. A warehouse would probably be needed since you look like you will need 10+ tables.

Warehouse would be good, but where to find one?

sounds good count me in
For a space that sized you may want to contact some organization like Moose, Elk or some other such critter and see if they would be willing to host a tourney like that. Otherwise you are looking at renting a hall, which could also be found from the same people.

Hello,
I may be able to help you but i would need some info. I have been researching poker clubs and what the law says about having them in a restaurant, but can't seem to find all the info I need. We have a room that could fit all of you and it would be private. Let me know if this helps. Thanks
Maybe this will help. One of our members here has an excellent website that has a lot of good information on the law for the states regarding gambling.
Since they put it in their profile I will assume they wont mind the extra traffic :)

I work in the industry so I would recommend finding a large sports bar. Of course you can't "rent" it out but they could perhaps block off an area for you. Some owner/managers might be a bit weary of "gambling" But other would welcome a bunch of 21 and over in their establishment. They figure that if the people will show up and have a few beers and maybe some food before/after, they're fine with that.
OR....bingo halls. There are a lot around the city. They aren't always in use so it would be easy to tell the owner that you'll pay 2-3 bucks a head and you could easily seat 100+ people.
VFW or Fraternal organizations. They are everywhere. I'm not talking about GREEK fraternal organizations but VFW= Veterans of Foreign Wars and Moose or Elk Lodges. They always have their halls ready for rental.
Questions, send me a message and I can help about.

I have tried a bunch of places like VFW etc., with no particular luck, but I did get an email from a nice girl who says she has a place for us.
The date has been tentatively scheduled for Oct 23rd at 3:00 PM.
A sign up website is being created right now so I will post it as soon as it is up and as soon as we confirm the date and place.
Just in case our location falls through, if anyone has a suggestion as to place, pleasae let me know!
Thanks.

I'm in and already registered. Is it cool if i were CPPA sponsored clothing. just thought i would ask before. Some people might have a problem.
FIRESTORM

I have no problem with wearing sponsored clothing. We are not allowing any other kind of advertising, including:
1. Banners
2. Flyers
3. business cards to be handed out in mass
4. anything with a logo (Magnets, keychains, etc.)
This is to protect our real sponsors. (We are actually working on a few that may lower the tourn fee).
Clothing is allowed though...

ok cool thank you. As for the Business cards. is it ok to pass out to someone if they ask first. I dont run a business. It would be jsut for the CPPA. nothing that would take away from any sponsors i wouldnt think.

If someone asks you for your business card, that is ok. I just want to make sure that our sponsors are getting the maximum exposure for thier money.

Some good news:
We have lined up two sponsors so far for the tournament.
DenverPoker.com has agreed to supply all the cards needed for our tournament. Thanks Rick!
Poker-wholesale.com has donated a poker chip set to be given away during one of the breaks. We will have a random drawing of all the registered players.
Still seats available...so take a moment and register to play.

The buy-in has been reduced to $40+$5. We found a venue that was considerably cheaper thus the decrease in the fee.
We are still looking for some more players, so if you have not already signed up, do so now.
Thanks.

I signed up fpr the trmy last week and am looking forward to it. After recently moving here from Arizona, it will be nice to play with some real faces again (online is ok but nothing beats live poker).
I do have a quick question. Should I have recieved some sort of confirmation email?
Thanks and looking forward to the trny...

Are we going to have to fill out tax forms for 1st place?
FIRESTORM
09-28-2004, 09:50 AM
Taxes are your responsibility. We know you will pay what you owe if you win.
Remember folks, this is just a home game that has grown to large number. If you win over $1000 at your home game, do you pay the appropriate tax? You should...

ummm do i pay taxes for the large winnings...not that is a question i can not answer. To be honest i dont think i have ever won enough at one sitting to have to worrie to much about paying taxes.
