Hey guys,
Well, I've been back for a few weeks, but thought I'd post a little write-up on my week in Vegas.
I really wanted to break into the NL cash games. Last trip I sat at a 1-3 NL at Ceasars and watched a guy blow $1000 in less than 45 mins....so I was a little "scared" to say the least.
First off, the 1-2 NL games were insane.....I played in one Venetian Deepstack tourney and lost the buy-in ($340), had I not done that, the cash games would have kept me in the plus column for the week..........
MGM Grand: I like this room because the flow of players was very quick and smooth due to their hi-tech table system. The play was actually pretty decent. There were a few donks that didn't know what they were doing, but I also saw many good players.
Golden Nugget: Pretty nice room, I guess it's changed 3 times since I last saw it in 2006, and it's a much better situation now. The No Cap buy-in was a little scary, but people were usually only playing $200-$300 deep. The players were definitely locals that knew the dealers and waitresses at all times. Heck, some of them were probably dealers themselves...!! Or at least they made their living off of poker.
Bally's: Ok, this place sucked, they have the highest rake I've ever seen ($5 max) AND they take $1 from every pot for a High hand jackpot. So every pot cost you $6-7+ depending on tip..... BUT the PLAY was SO bad, I actually couldn't talk myself into leaving..... :) One hand for example: I have pocket 5s, flop comes J56. I get a bet and call up front, then I min-reraise to $40 and get 3 callers. 8 on the turn, bets up front, call, I reraise to $100 and get TWO people to CALL ALL-IN against me........I figured my 5s were toast, but one had two pair (8-5) and the other didn't show, but I can only guess a high Jack, or flush draw. Anyway that one hand won me over $400!!!!!! That was the profit, not even my contribution.....!! LOL
Anyway, one of the dealers told me the room got softer after the rake was raised to the insane $5/10% and I thought to myself: "No sh#!, that's why I'm here....!!"
I stayed at Paris, their poker room blew and they could barely keep one table open after midnight.
I played a little (~3 hours) at Ceasar's, playing 4-8 limit. Won about $100, but I just couldn't get much going there. They were in the middle of a WSOP Circuit event though, so that was cool.
And after the Venetian DS tourny I played about 4 hours of 4-8 limit there as well. Didn't get much going there either. Limit sucks if you ask me..... ;)
I stopped by the Bellagio for the $25,000 WPT championship, but the ME had already started a day or two before we got there, so I missed any satellite opportunities that may have been available before then. I still have yet to play at the Bellagio poker room. Partly because it's so busy, but it's also a little intimidating too........... :( Maybe next trip!
I did see Doyle and said Hi as he whizzed by on his scooter, that was cool, and I saw the usuals like Chris Ferguson, Bill Edler, etc playing the WPT event.
Next trip I plan on trying my hand at 2-5 NL and see how different it is from 1-2.....
Let me know if you have any Q's
