600 members here as of now. Who'da thunk it?
Not me that's for sure
I will tell ya, when I opened this site it was more or less for fun and to maybe have a few people stop by.
Best opening estimate was to have 2-300 people by the end of the year and maybe 5-700 posts. That was a VERY optimistic projection.
Obviously there was a need and a desire to have a central place for ALL THINGS POKER in the area and it took off.
The great thing, is that YOU GUYS are what makes it. Without members and daily posting, it would just be yet another dead zone on the net.
And you know what, I don't think we have come close to reaching them all yet and that 1000 members will be on the horizon b4 you know it.
I have wandered the net looking at other geo specific poker sites and none even come close to the Denver Poker Players. I would go as far as saying that you could add all their members and not reach what we have here.
And its only been just over 2 months

Just in the last month it seems we have gotten around half of those members!

Congrats Rick!
I know I tell at least one person about your site at every tourny I play, about five times a week.
My new goal is to play in as many different events as possible and then give you all my two cents in a review.
So Far I have played Denver Poker Tour, CSL, and the newest was Denver Full House. Next week I plan on trying the Nationwide Poker Tour at Woody's in Denver, the the APL tourny. I think they all have their pro's and con's and will let you know what I think in the next couple weeks.
I think the competition is great, hopefully will make them all better and we'll see who survives. It would be great to get a Bar owners prospective too if they have tried different ones.

I can say that I'm very proud to be a member of such a great site. But as Rick said. This site is nothing with out the members. I'm sure glad that the members here take pride in it. Be the only mod here i thought it would be a real challange try to keep order. Not with you all I hardly have to do anything. not alot of site can say such things. Rick you are the man. and im proud to call Denverpoker.com my favorit site. :D

I would like to thank Rick for pointing me to this forum over at the Denver_Poker mailing list. I had been a regular over at coloradogamblingforum.com until it upped and disappeared a few months ago.

That will always be an issue with any forum. More lurkers than posters and that's fine, as long as THEY realize, without posts, they have nothing to see here. Take efilnikuf as an example I will pick on. They are here now and normally several times a day but don't post. Why for how come?
If you can come up with something that will help them to post, I am all ears.
I am also looking for new and creative venues where to get the word out. I am sure we can do 1000+ easily so if you have any ideas or know someone who will streak through some of the venues with the URL printed on them, just PM me.
Hey it works for GP :)

What about possible sponsoring poker events at local pubs? That is a good way to advertise.
I can only wear my DP.com tee shirt so many nights a week
I did that at Fagans. Gave away a few chips sets and stuff.

I think that's the biggest part of getting any event rolling is the publicity. Where I was last nite the owner told me that he can't afford to pay for these events much longer unless more players show up. He was in a somewhat out of the way location (1/2 block off 104th on a side street) and was hoping the event planner (CSL) would publicise it better.

One way to get the word out is to just schedule a meet and greet at a local bar/restaurant. Anyone who is interested can "bring a friend or two" maybe play a little cards...or just socialize. Bringing people to a social like this will encourage even those wough are brought to get the word out.
Just a thought.
That's a pretty good idea. I will have to check into a location or 2. I am planning on going to Heavenly Daze tomorrow night so I will see what they have.

(Warning: Self-indulgent ego boost ahead)
I'll be at the Heavenly Daze tourney Thursday night also. So if anyone wants to meet me or have any questions about poker (Wednesday nights I put my 13+ years of casino poker experience on the line by hosting a Beginners Mostly No Limit Holdem game where I help newer players understand the craziness of no limit and poker in general), I'll be happy to answer em...for a beer!
Nah...I'll answer em anyway. Beer is optional...
Whew. Now that I feel like I'm someone important, I'll continue on with my day.
