Anyone have a more concrete date on when it will open? I've heard December or January.

Has anyone heard if any of the tables will be non-smoking?

The latest I have heard is somewhere from mid-Feb to the beginning of March. I also heard for now the room is supposed to be all smoking. It is supposed to be very nice though.

Well there is still a very small group of players who aren't smoking yet so this will be the incentive they need to start :)

The newest rumor is for an "early February" opening. No other details at this time.

Gleaned off another website, who gleaned it from another

Looks like the Gilpin Hotel & Casino will open their new poker room on March 7th or 8th.

They plan to actually have structured games: 1/2 and 2/4 hold em, 7 stud and O/8 instead of the silly 2/5 spread limit (one $2 blind...lol) and 5/5 (two $5 blinds...lol) games that everyone else spreads around here. I've been told that CO is the only state to have a single blind hold em game, but I'm not sure if that's true.

Can't wait for a review... I may need to start going up the hill more than once a year.

I plan on being there on the 10th, I'll post a review in a separate thread. Can't wait to check it out. Poker all day, dinner at Lillian's (very nice medium priced restaurant on the 2nd floor) and then Thursday DPT. Fun Thursday ahead. 8)

Directions - find your way to Blackhawk first :-)

At the 2nd light, go left, then right. The Gilpin will be on your left. Next to Fitzgerald's, near Bullwhacker's.

I dunno if March 10th is the right date.

In the e-mail I received, there's a contest to win a seat for a dinner seminar with David Chiu. It says entries will be accepted between March 12-31.

Anyways, really looking forward to The Gilpin, especially the 2-4 table! I may try to get up there on March 25 in the early afternoon.

Are they going to do anything special for the grand opening of the poker room?

Rick
03-09-2005, 03:29 PM
Well to be honest, I don't know. It seems they are taking a page from the Lodge Casino and putting 'customer service' on the farthest back burner they can find

Oh, come now, Rick, look at the bright side. A place that treats you like a number, takes the highest rake in town (tied now, I think), doesn't run tournaments, and then rakes money out of the bad beat rake for an "administrative fee".

What's not to like?

but you can't beat the fish that play there so all in all it is worth it IMHO

Well if they rake/fee it much higher, it will be cheaper to fly to Vegas and play on those ultra cheapy weekend fares they have.
