View Full Version : APT does a DPT

So I played an APT event today at Sweetwater. Even tho I'm not a gold member I got seated right away at one of two tables. Nice. I'm glad I didn't pay $200 for that priviledge. As the first half hour went by more people signed up. Soon there were 15 on the wait list. DPT's supposed policy is that they get another dealer in to take the overflow. The TD called the office. No more dealers. Draws came dry and I got outdrawn. That happens. I signed up for pot limit omaha, which they play after a table breaks down.
After two hours the blinds are still at the original level of 25-50 and there is still a list. An announcement is made that there will be no omaha and the two tables are now playing for two certs at each table. At that point I left. They probably made up new rules for poker after that fiasco. My wife is still playing there, so I'll hear about those later.
So, after 2 hours players are still being seated, blinds haven't gone up and new rules are made. Sound familiar?
Moe? Doc? Are you listening?

The nice thing about The Poker Tour is that (1) the waiting list closes 30 minutes after the tourney starts and (2) the first hour is 25/50. Almost everyone on the waiting list is seated before the blinds go to 50/100.

From my experience, the waitlists were closed before the first card was in the air. Occasionally they will allow 1-2 more people if they show up within 15 min of the game starting.
The blind structure has never changed either. There were a couple of times where the play at the table was slow & tight so the last person on the waitlist was seated after the blinds went up. Every time that person understood his place in line and knew that if he had shown up earlier like everyone else, he wouldn't have been that far down on the list.
Haven't had a bad experience yet with TPT (even though I have to drive to the south side to play).

The Denver Poker Tours' policy is the wait list is closed fifteen minutes after the first hand is dealt. We try to have as many tables going as possible, but since most players don't sign up until the day of the event, it is hard to manage the table count before the event. However, when the dealers call in their shifts for the night, we ask them to inform us on the number of players on the wait list, so we may get a better gauge of players waiting for the next week.

PS. APT could never do a DPT in reality, if they did, then they would actual have to pay off their prizes. Example: The Land Rover that was given away in December? It is actually a LEASE vehicle that APT is making payments on. Now does that sound like a prize to you?

Brian - Can't you ever let one go?? I have been reading the posts on this forum about the free poker around town, and it sounds like you don't have much of a fan base. It also seems that there is plenty of business for the various poker tours, so why not concentrate your posts on the benefits of playing the DPT, rather than always finding a way to stab at your competition? And that's why I prefer TPT to the others in town. APT is hit/miss on it's prizes and both APT and DPT are all about quantity of players instead of quality of play.
Yes, TPT has smaller numbers and consequently smaller "prizes," but I'm one of those crazy people who just prefer to sit down, have a brew and shoot the breeze with the same handfull of people while we throw around some cards and some chips.
If I really wanted to be a very serious player with serious prizes, I take off to Vegas or Atlantic City and play the high end rooms there.
I think TPT has really nailed the formula to combine the bar, players, and the game in a fun, laid back atmosphere. I'm not saying I'll never play a APT or DPT event, but if I have a choice on any given night which of the 3 to play, I'll definatly play TPT.

Did you get that e-mail from APT that had her picture in it? Very interesting player.
Only reason *I think* they paid her cash for that event, was because their company checks were bouncing.

I stopped playing the DPT over a year ago; I thought the tourney/blind structure was terrible, and once the only Longmont game shut down (the venue went OOB), I sure couldn't justify driving elsewhere to play it.
The APT? I spend a few weeks donking around it. Won a cert my 2nd try in Fort Lupton, and sat down terribly short stacked at the Monthly Final. Still, won another cert in a consolation SNG, but after about five more final tables, couldn't get a 2nd cert, and showed up at the next monthly looking to double up really damn quickly, or go up to Blackhawk where I could really make money. Even when they expanded payouts beyond 3 places, I couldn't justify sitting 9 hours to go out 10th place of 410 players and receive nothing. (For what it's worth, I donked out in 10 hands, at Moe Money's table, to boot -- but made about $350 up the hill, got home, and watched a ballgame, all in less time than it took for 10th place to go home broke.)
For what it's worth, I have no vested interest in either tour whatsoever. That said, the DPT proprietor seems really effin' bitter. The APT took off quickly. But the play quality is really fishy, the land mines are many. I know nothing of bounced checks, but what a way to run a railroad, ya know? After months and months of APT not being able to get a game in Longmont, I'm not sure why I'd be compelled to drive out of my way to support a bar elsewhere.
In Longmont, we have our own deals going, at 3rd Avenue (pays $50 to winner), at Bit Of Billards (several 12-week seasons with cash prizes at the end), and 4th and Main (similar to 3rd Avenue). There is a very sizable market for bar poker in Longmont, and as far as I can tell, not a single tour to take advantage of it. At the Bit, we're filling 4-6 tables four times a week. 3-4 tables at the other places.
The DPT had a shot here, but with their venue mere blocks from the others, and starting with only like 1000 in chips, or so, it was a fait accompli that it wouldn't last. The APT has been promising a Longmont venue for quite a while, and hasn't been able to come through, despite the large number of players here and the number of venues already keen on hosting poker.
Anyway, just wanted to get all that off my chest, for no reason in particular other than to say the tours have really neglected Longmont to their own detriment, not ours, since we're still getting lots of actual well run free poker.

Several of you sent me a private e-mail asking how I knew about the Land Rover. Here is my answer.
I talked with the CBI Agent Ralph Gagliardi. He told me the SUV was leased and not purchased. He also told me who's name it was actually leased in. My question is, how can APT say someone won a prize that actually is not won, but leased? They have implied that they purchased her a $15,000 vehicle. This is not the case. They have leased her, her "prize".
As far as me putting down other poker tours...
Colorado Poker People, Colorado Poker.tv, The Poker Tour.net, and I have actually a very good working relationship. We have respected each others business for awhile now. We have all agreed to not poach each others' accounts. We also work to make sure that "fly by night" companies don't destroy a market we have worked so hard to create. I think its wonderful that people in Colorado play poker in various FREE tours around the state. I HATE when "fly by night" companies offer prizes they don't actually have, operate illegal poker games, or don't pay off their prizes in general. DenverPoker.com has many comments made from players they feel were ripped off from other "poker tour" companies. Many of these companies have offered the world, and then taken off into the night.
On a personal note, when people make statements of comments about my company or me personally, I do take notice. I have always tried to make sure everyone is having a good time. However, when people make anonymous postings about me or my company I do get offended. Why, because you know who I am, but I don't know who you are. And I honestly believe that what you have to say is irrelevant. If you can't acknowledge who you are, then why should I.
Last but not least. I am sorry that I haven't made some of you players feel more warm or welcome when you come out to our games. Next time introduce yourself, and I'll be glad to by you a drink....or maybe even let you sit down first. Heck, I am offering you face to face discussion on any topic you choose. The best part, I won't charge you $199.00 to do it.
Thank you for your time,

No offense, but most of your posts fall under 1 of 2 categories:
1) Apt Rocks!!
2) Bashing people who don't think APT rocks.
I'm not trying to defend Brian here (he can do it himself), but I'm just pointing out that the Pot is in fact calling the Kettle black.
We all have our reasons for feeling our own sense of loyalty to the tour where we play. Can't we leave it at that?

Being loyal is one thing, and there is nothing wrong with that. However, Brian Master's needs to concentrate on his on tour DPT, and leave APT out of it !!!
Yes, I am loyal to the tour I play with, APT, and always will be. If anyone feels great about DPT, APT, ETC....... then awesome, by all means say so. I am not saying there is anything wrong with that, However, talkin crap about another tour that has nothing to do with you is BS!!!!
It's easy to see who is Jealous, because he keeps sayin the same old **** !!!
Otherwise, why do it?

Brian,
Don't you have anything better to do with your time then post crap about APT? Get A life, and stick to DPT. Hey Moe do you realize that you look like a total fool everytime you post? Honestly we get it! You are blindly devoted to a poker game which, and I can say this with almost total certainty, will NEVER PAY YOU ANOTHER DIME AGAIN!!!!! Honestly judging by your posts you have no sense let alone poker sense so i don't see you ever winnig anything again. I will start by saying that. Moe I don't like you. You're demeanor is ridiculous and you really know how to ruin a good thread with your constant, incoherent, babbling about how the "APT is the best and everyone else should shut up." Honestly Moe this is a public forum where people come to express thier thoughts and opinions and you really take advantage of that right evertime you post. Every post I have ever seen from you has shown me that you are nothing but a hypocrite. Honestly moe, it is one thing to be devoted to something and another to be blind and stupid about things. Your devotion is great but if it were my tour you were sticking up for, I would kindly ask you to stop.
had to get that off my chest. I was going to type something similar on the APT forum but I am sure the post would be deleted and my IP banned as they can't seem to handle anyone speaking thier opinion over there.
good day.
