Greetings, The Poker Tour would like to invite you to 2 of our new venues. We are now hosting poker tournaments at 2 of the B.U.F.F. Brothers bars, Gibby's in Aurora and FuNuGyz in Parker.
Gibby's is on Monday nights and starts at 8:00 pm. FuNuGyz is on Wednesday nights and starts at 7:00 pm.
The Poker Tour just ended its Spring session and gave away 5 seats to this year's WSOP. We are in a new session and are now giving away 5 seats to the Five Diamond World Porker Classic at the Bellagio. Winner's of the Five Diamond World Poker Classic get their buy-in paid for in the WPT finals at the end of the year. Come and enjoy a truly FREE poker experience and earn your chance to play for big prizes.

LOL...I will be the first to admit that there is alot of fishing that goes on in the bars that hold my tournaments. However, alot of fishing takes place in probably most, it not all of free bar poker.
The one thing that is unique about free bar poker is that people can actually win some very significant prizes, all for "free" poker. As a matter of fact, I just held our final end of session tournament on April 1st and 5 people won seats into this year's WSOP, all for free poker. Not one of the 10 people that made the final table were on a "fishing" expedition. They were actually good players and now they are getting a chance to "fish" at the WSOP this summer.
My new session has started and we are now going from bi-annual tournaments to quarterly events. So, for the next 2 quarterly tournaments I will be sending a total of 6 players to the 5 Diamond World Poker Classic held in December at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.
I understand how you or anyone that doesn't play much bar poker feel. I appreciate your comments and maybe someday you would come and check out the play in one of my tournaments.

I agree that generally the overall winners in the free poker tours are pretty good players.
The company I work for sent 8 players to Cripple Creek (we don't have enough venues for WSOP and Vegas, hahahahaha!) and all 8 made the final table out of 50 players and the top four finishers were from our tour.
One of our players won three consecutive tournaments (a 44 person home game, and two Cripple Creek tourneys) in a period of a week.
So although there is some 'fishy' play at the free tournaments, some of the players really utilize the free tournaments for learning and perfecting their game and then apply those experiences to money play. And I think it's a great place to work on your game simply because there's minimal risk, you really get challenged to read cards well because of the erratic play, and you can evaluate what works and what doesn't with a variety of different skill levels.

I agree 100% with what you said. I believe the best place to learn is when it's free. We all had to learn somewhere. I would have to add that I play alot of tournaments up in Black Hawk and it astonishes me sometimes of the "fishing" that goes on up there when you actually are playing for money and alot of it at that. Therefore, "fishing" happens more than the free bar tours.
Come and check us out sometime.

FWIW, I've actually played in and enjoyed The Poker Tour free bar tournies. I think that they're well run and fun. There's always going to be some "interesting" play in free tournies, but there's usually "interesting" play at every level of real money poker I've ever played. It's a good mix of players IMO and pretty good practice and heck, it's poker and it's free!

Fishy play or bad play typically happens for 1 of 2 reasons. Either a) the player didn't know any better and sucked out on you or b) they don't care about the buy-in/game and just want to run you down.
These 2 bad plays assume that YOU bet the hand correctly, such as not slow-playing your pocket aces or giving free cards/pot odds to chase. A big assumption there, so check yoself before you wreck yoself.
My point is, these 2 things are happening at all levels of the game, espescially in tournaments. From free bar poker to online play to big dollar buy-ins, these bad plays will happen. There's just too many people playing poker.

Good post Ryan! I agree 100%.
You can really see the bad play if you watch the USPC from last year. I had to keep reminding myself that it was a $10K buy-in event. Man, some of the play was horrific!!!!!
Almost on par with free bar games which is really sick if you think about it.........

Ryan, nice table:) !!!!!
When it comes right down to it, the whole concept of free bar poker tour, at least from one who owns a free bar poker company, is entertainment. That is why the bars have us come in and set up tournaments, not so that Jamie Gold can win a chance for a seat at the WSOP, not that he needs a buy-in that is paid for LOL.
When I started my company I wanted to bring the best in bar poker to players. Whether, or not, that has happened (I think I have, but I am biased) is for you to decide.
Either way, come to a TPT event and enjoy yourself, even if some donkey sucks out with his 7 3 off-suit to your pocket aces and thinks that he/she actually made a good play. Who knows you might just end up getting a seat paid for to a major poker event.
