Joey runs a good room up there. Honestly folks play at the gates! not only do they have the normal bad beat (which was somewhere around 40k yesterday), they have the house funded bad beat and give out cash simply for hitting certain hands (royal flush, wheel flush, quad aces etc..) The gates really has turned into the best cardroom in the state.

I have played at the Gates and it was good. The snack bar was convenient, too.
The whole situation with live poker in Colorado is so depressing. It takes about an hour to get up there and then the low spread limits with the rake make for a unattractive combo. On the other hand, setting up a home game has been hard for me.

I have had enough of thier chicken ceasar wraps to kill a horse but I still like them. It does suck that the limits are so low here. I hate it.

Yeah the snackbar is good.
I also saw they added pho to the menu. I love pho. I may have to try it with my Golden Gates comp I have waiting for me.

I'm going to head up on Sunday and try the noon tourney. I'll let you all know what I think. If anyone else is going to be there let me know, I'll target you for an early rail.... :)

I played in the Sunday Noon Tourney.
Buy-in: $60
Players: 99 (this was apparently a record, they had to cut-off sign-ups about 15 minutes prior to the start of the tourney) All tables started 11-handed.
Starting chips: T2,500
Blind Schedule (20 minute levels)
25-50
50-100
100-200
200-400
300-600
etc. etc (read - I was knocked out during this level, but assume that the increase was pretty standard from here - I've mentioned that I stink at poker, right?)
Nice room and the staff seems pretty good. You've got to amass chips pretty quickly to be able to actually play poker and not "jam or fold" cards with the starting chip stacks and blind levels being what they are.
About 1/2 of the field is gone by the end of the first hour giving the avg. stack around T5,000. With the blinds at 200-400 at this point the avg. player has an M of 8.33 and it becomes a jamfest. Accumulate early or pray for a great run of cards after the first hour.
edit: payouts - I didn't actually see the payout schedule as I didn't get a sniff of the final table. They were paying 9 places (I would've expected 10 with 99 players). Not sure how they broke it out, sorry.

Bump - I'm going up on Sunday and giving the noon tourney another run (rough format, but it's the cheapest Sunday tourney that I can find). If anyone else is going let me know.

I'll try to hit some of the GG tourneys in April.

Yeah, that tourney is my preference for Sunday tornies. I really like the Gilpin. Unfortunately I'm going with someone who isn't willing to go over $60. I may still drag him up there, he just won't be able to do the rebuys (that's the 40/30/30, right?)

last I checked it was the 40/30/30...they seem to change them up a bit these days..
well even if he did just the 40/30 I am pretty sure that is still 3000 in chips....so for $10 more that's about the same....but for another $30 you get 3500 more I can't understand not doing it....
people don't realize it but the Gilpin really spoils us....go to Vegas and find me a better structure for under a $200-$300+ buy in.....you won't...
most of them are just horrible....$60 1000 chips I've seen, 25-50 blinds.

The Sahara 11am/7pm/11pm tourneys are $62 for 5000 chips, and the blinds start at 25/25. When I'm able to hit Vegas, that's where I'll be.
Remeber folks, next time you hit Blackhawk, PLEASE post the details of the tournaments in this thread (http://www.denverpoker.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1555). Many thanks in advance.

Thanks for posting the new schedule, pseudoswede. I went up last night for the 7pm at Golden Gates. Didn't make it too far when my kings fell to queens, but I stuck around and did well at the 2-5 to finish up for the night:) I really like the room at the Golden Gates, especially since it's non-smoking. Are there any other non-smoking poker rooms in BH other than Golden Gates and Ameristar?

The Gilpin is non-smoking, but sometimes they are not too strict about enforcement.

Actually, it's just half the room (the side closest to the windows) that's non-smoking. All tournaments are non-smoking, as well.

Gilpin Presidents Day...
110 people in the Monday noon tourney $48 buy in. Top 10 places paid.
Finish 10th $40...so you lose $8

Well, half non smoking is better than no non smoking (as long as you're not a smoker.) So far, I've only played at Central Station, Ameristar and Golden Gates. Central Station was quite smoke filled, I think also due to the loft type setup of the poker room over the main floor. If the weather isn't bad on Friday, I think I'll head up to Gilpin and check it out.
Does anyone know if the sitngo's at the Gilpin run regularly on Friday nights or is there a problem filling them? I signed up for a sitngo at the Central Station one night but it never filled. :(

I THINK the Gilpin has a Nitro tourney (SnG) on Friday nights, but I can't remember, and their website is down.
Nonetheless, avoid the Nitro tourneys like the plague.

Yeah, I was reading about the format for these when I was up there last weekend. It looks like roulette only with worse odds. Close your eyes and jam every hand might not be a bad strategy for these. Not interested.
