Did anyone play inthe Red and Jerry's tourney last night? Thought there were alot of gunslingers. Playing virtually every hand...all in 80% of the time. Very loose play. How do others see this game?

A coworker of mine got 3rd... he said that a lot of people were just holding their cards and getting blinded out once it got down to the last two or three tables.

He did mention one table that he was at that the people all wanted to leave, so they "gave" their chips away. Maybe this was what you experienced....

Sounds like a pretty cool tourney, and I'm sure I'll check it out one of these days.

Yeah, it can be very difficult to play against somebody like that, but you've gotta expect it , especially at a free tournament.

I would imagine he didn't last long if he was going all in every hand... if anybody had the nutz to call him on it.

A lot of people play "all-in all the time" to intimidate players that are experienced enough to play decent hands, but don't want to risk losing it before the flop. It's pretty effective for getting a big chip stack early, in fact, it works every time. Except once. :) Once, unfortunately, is enough to take you out of a NL tournament, as we all know.

I think a player that sits down and puts all his chips in throughout the course of every hands he plays creates a very strong table image. Some players will be intimidated and will avoid playing pots with him. That is exactly what he wants. Don't assume this person is inexperienced, however. That can kill you. He wants you to think he is crazy and unpredictable, because that is strength in poker.

The stronger, more experienced player, will probably wait until they have strong->huge hands, then slow play the guy to death while he throws his chips at you. Occasionally the bully will take you out, but in the long run you will place higher than the bully, and the long run is what counts.

Fear is death in poker.

that seemed to be exactally what he was doing..."all in, all the time"...but he was getting lucky as hell with the draws. pretty remarkable.

That usually isnt the norm at Red and Jerry's. It can be fairly loose, but not like DPT or anything like that. I have played there a few times, and I play fairly tight. I made the final table my 3rd time there playing tight, so it can work for you not to play so loose!

I play fairly tight myself. I think I only played three hands the entire night. got taken out when I had pocket Aces...both blinds were all in, first to act was all in for min amount, guy to my right matched my be....of course at a full table he is calling with a 6 and a 10 (os)....and of course he draws to two pair 6's and 10's.

That happened to me at Fox and Hound last week. I had AQ suited and got called all in by the big blind who had J-5 off suit. He hit a 5 on the river to knock me out!

Funny how you can play your bet poker, and still get knocked out by a 10-6 or j-5 lol

Please not that these Red and Jerrys tourneys start at 7:00; however, they start taking names (by phone) at 11:00a.m. I got there at 5:25 p.m. and I was #136. I think they only have 144 players MAX. So if you are going to play there....MAKE SURE TO CALL IN and get your name on the list.
