"Poker Palace - 2 tables (702) 649-9375 "

Two tables? That's not a palace, that's a closet.

Get rid of the casinos that don't have poker rooms -- i.e., those that just list the phone numbers.

The only one I would keep would be Caesar's Palace, which I heard will be opening soon.

We just got back from Vegas... here's a very brief review of where to go and where not to go (these are for NL games)

Luxor
don't even think about it! The room is horrible. The game is awful; max buy in of $50 for the 1/2 game - no other NL games.

Their tournament is completely horrid.

Rio
Poker Room: (my review = 7 out of 10) Fairly decent, except the tables are about 6 inches too short which leaves the middle 3 positions a little cramped. The sports book is right next to the room and you can hear some of the slots outside the room, but not too bad at all.

Tournaments: Daily noon tournament is very well run w/ 1 re-buy.

Ring Game: Rarely saw more than 2 or 3 NL games. Only found a 2/5 game once.

Overall: A better tournament room than ring game room. FWIW - they just bought the rights to the WSOP and will be hosting the 2005 game, except for the final days.

Alladin
General: (7 out of 10). One of the more quiet rooms
Decent 1pm tournaments. Live game is OK. The poker room is one of the more secluded/quiet rooms I checked out.

Tournaments: The 1pm tournament is very well run.

Ring Game: No 2/5 games that I saw; only 1 or 2 1/2 games.

Overall: Again, seemed to be a better tournament room than ring game room.

Mirage
General: (8 out of 10). The room has a ton of tables; but are a little crammed together. The room had more of a homey feel to it than a large hotel.

Tournaments: don't know - never went to one.

Ring Game: More of a higher stakes room - only offered one 1/2 game even though many were on the waiting list. Plenty of 2/5 games to jump into.

Overall: I really liked the room. Would have been a much better place if the room was larger and not as cramped.

Harrahs
General: (6 out of 10). Though the room was the most secluded and quiet of all the rooms, I just didn't get a good vibe there. Not sure why. May have been because it felt too generic.

MGM Grand
General: (9 out of 10) The room has a great vibe. Only problem is the bar/club adjecent to the room and the music can be a bit loud at times.

Tournaments: don't know never went to one.

Ring game: Plenty of 1/2 and 2/5 games.

Overall: By far my favorite room to play a ring game. Had a couple of digital screens that displayed the current games and your position on the waiting list.

Bellagio
The room was being renovated and decided not to play in their temp room.

We did get a chance to watch Sammy Farha and Johnny Chan play :)

General Notes
As mentioned before, these are reviews for NL games (1/2 and 2/5). If you want more specific details about one of the room, let me know and I'll try to fill in the gaps.

Anyone play the new Bellagio or Wynn rooms yet? Both are supposed to be very nice, but have not been to Vegas since they opened.

The room at MGM is outstanding, best room I played out there by far (before the 2 new rooms opened). Tables are very nice all with auto-shufflers. They have a nice ring of Marble around the outside for your chips and cup holders for beverages. They have terrific beer on tap (Guiness and Sierra Nevada where my choices) and the servers are very attentive. Plasma TVs all over the room for sports viewing and a terrific queuing system as well on the screens to see where you are on the list at all times.

Only down side is it is near the front entrance, and evenings a live band plays out in the main hall, so it can get VERY loud in the room at night.

A must play next time you are in town.

I highly recommend the poker room at mandalay bay ~ it's small, and you can't use headphones there (if that's your thing) because it's right next to the sports betting parlor, which is a really silly rule to begin with (e.g., what stops me from writing down odds, walking 20 feet to where i can use my cell phone and calling in odds and taking bets???). When I was in Vegas, I played there almost exclusively after playing at the other poker rooms (including the Bellagio). Most are locals/regulars, meaning good solid players ~ not river rats or tourists who just saw Celebrity Poker on TV the night before ~

Might want to try it out!

Just got back from Vegas. I played at MGM and Aladdin. MGM was a huge poker room, good service, nice tables and enough space for the large amount of tables. I enjoyed it there, but liked Aladdin better.

Aladdin is a small room, but it's very comfortable, and well run. Good 1/2 no limit game going there at any time of the day. As someone else mentioned, their main tournament on Friday is very well ran.

I agree with you Ike. I do like the Aladdin also. It just seemed more personable to me.

If I haven't already done so.... :schild27: to the Forum

Martin - isn't it harder to beat the locals/regulars than the tourists or not really? How did you do?

I'd much rather play the chaser/river rats myself. You just need to adjust your play to match, don't try bluffing them, hit them hard with your solid hands, and send them crying back to the ATM. Sure they are going to suck out occasionally but that's expected.

I like playing against locals/regulars because it's almost always playing skills rather than gambling ~ sure it's fun sometimes to play against newbies to the game, but it's nice to have a laid back game with quality poker ~ I did well *knock on wood* - I won enough to pay for my trip!

If you are there in the next few weeks during the WSOP - definately check out the MGM. Very nice room with some good action and they are one of the few willing to spread HORSE with enough interest. We played a 3/6 HORSE game there last Friday that was a blast.

I just got back Friday nite. I'll try to do a trip report later. I did get to play at a few places.

Tropicana: OK room, smallish not too loud but can hear that damned "Wheel...Of...Fortune" MOSTLY 2-4 limit and a little 1-2 NL.

Rio: The poker room was deserted. All the action was in the convention hall where the WSOP was. I played 4-8 with a bunch who mostly busted out of the $1500 NL tourney. There were games from 4-8 to 400-800 Omaha.

MGM: Really nice room. They spread anything there was interest in. Loose, drunk locals and tourists. Also had tourneys Monday thru Thurs for $65 at 11:00 am.

Wynn: The crown jewell. I played 4-8 but they'd spread anything you like. I was doing well there, but became the drunk tourist. The only noise came from the tourists in the hallwar chattering as they were going to the Ferrari dealer across the hall or to the parking garage. But the cocktail waitresses ... :jumpgrn: I don't think I've seen so many gorgeous girls gathered together like this in my life! Dumb as sticks most of them, but WOW!

I'll add my latest Vegas experience, at least as well as I can remember. I went over the weekend of June 10. I was there with the wifey and a few non-poker-playing friends, so my time was limited. I did get a decent amount of time in at the new rooms I wanted to get to, though. The last time I had been to Vegas was in March, which was when Bellagio was still renovating and the MGM and Wynn rooms were still under construction.

Bellagio: The new room is very nice, but they're still using those ****ing clipboards for the list. Their arrogance astounds me. Once you get past the huge lines and the arrogant brushes and into a game, though, it's great. The tables and the chairs are all real nice and the room as a whole is beautiful. It has a great rail that wraps around the whole thing.

They really could have done so much more with the room, though, while they were renovating it anyway. Why they didn't do something to improve their list system is beyond me. The clipboard system is just asinine. They also need to improve their method of communication between the dealers and the floor. I've seen several rooms with walkie-talkies or call buttons built right into the table. In a room this big and noisy, I see this as almost essential.

Overall, I'd say this is definitely a room that you should go to just to have played there, but do it during off-peak times and then go somewhere else like the Wynn or the Mirage once you've got this out of the way.

MGM: The room is nicely done and everything is very nice in that brand-new shiny kind of way. They have lots of tvs up and a good list system. The management was very friendly and helpful. They had the call-button technology built into the tables, which was nice. Overall, I hated playing on the tables, though, because of the crappy surface all around it. It looks great, but it's absolutely craptacular for handling your cards. I was also disappointed by the tiny tiny games they were spreading. I'm not a high roller by any means, but they couldn't get anything bigger than a 4/8 going on a saturday night. 1/2, 3/6, and even 4/8 hold'em is just not even worth playing if you're there to actually play poker. The play was terrible and the clientele were a bunch of 20-something WPT wannabes. It was very annoying, although profitable if you can handle the variance and the idiot player chat. Also, the room is right next to their dance club, so it's nothing but thump-thump-thump bass pounding in your ears all night long. The eye candy wasn't enough to make up for this.

Wynn: My new favorite room. They really did it right. They didn't make the same mistakes that the Bellagio did when they did their room. The list is great and the management was quite friendly. The waitresses were smoking hot and quick with the service, which included good beer and not just the standard crappy American macrobrews. They had a nice assortment of games and limits. The 8/16 with $2 chips was a lot of fun. The room is beautiful and away from any outside noises - no slot machines, no music thumping, just the sounds of a poker room.

Mirage: The same old Mirage. The games are good there and the dealers are among the best. Management still uses a clipboard, but they're a lot better with it than the Bellagio and they work hard to keep all the games full. It's a loud room and you'll hear a lot of shouting from the blackjack tables. Overall, it's the least appealling room to the senses of the ones I've mentioned so far, but it gets the job done. One dealer said they're going to be getting auto-shufflers soon and I don't know any improvements to the list.

In the end, I'd say it's worth it to stop by all the rooms I mentioned above, if not to just have played there. When the dust settles, I'll spend my time almost entirely in the Wynn and the Mirage, with some time at the Bellagio if I can get in there without a 23496749673 hour wait. I am rated at the Bellagio, so I suspect I'll be staying there in the future and will naturally play there some. Maybe once all the excitement about the Wynn settles down, I'll get rated there too.

played in two tourneys...one at Flamingo...one at Sahara. Sahara was @ 6:0PM with a $40 buyin with a $20 rebuy that everyone bought before or during the tourney. about 180 players. Wasn't to good with all the rebuy stuff.

Flamingo $50 no rebuy 30 player max at 10:00 am and 4:00 pm is. Much better smaller game with top 3 payouts.

I agree about Mandalay Bay's poker room. I really like the feel of it and there are enough games to please everyone. Went to the Wynn and you would have thought they were handing out free money! Loooonnngg lists to play. Nice room though. Will check it out next time I go back.

I played at the MGM - Very nice enviroment.

That bar/club didnt bother me since I am deaf. The action was pretty good for us.

They do lay out a lot of games, just depends on the interest in them. Real nice.

Am planning on a few more trips to vegas.

New to these forums, heading out to Vegas in a week. A month or so ago I found a tourney schedule for Vegas that also lists a LOT of daily tournaments. Here's the link: http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/referenceguide-tournaments-home.cfm?SetDate=1/1/2006

The Venitian has added a new poker room. From the reviews I have seen, it's very roomy, plenty of space between tables. Lee Vinocur, the poker room manager, Has been very open to suggestions and comments on making the room better.

They will comp players $2 an hour for food through August on raked games, $3 on timed games.

The link was from a month ago, so I'm sure they'll have stuff worked out by now. I'm looking forward to playing there.

Having now played there I can honestly say that the room is terriffic. The overdone air freshener issue alluded to in the link I posted above is gone. The staff was very friendly. They spread any game that there was enough interest in. I played $1-2 NL and the game was quite good. Meal comps were there as promised and the menu was also extremely superlative. There are tournaments running fairly often. I'd recommend this place to anyone.

I'll agree with you WD. This room was one of the nicest I've played in so far.
I just got back from my week there, and my new favorite rooms are:

MGM
Venitian
Ceasars

MGM just has the hi-tech stuff going for them. The dealer pushes a button when a seat opens and they get it on their computers at the desk. You can get drinks ordered from there as well by pressing another button to call over a server. The card shufflers were working just great. And I liked the "openness" of the room.

Venitian was amazing, they definitely went all out for the room. The chip runners/food servers could have been better, one lady waited over an hour and a half for a food order, so she was p***ed off. But the room itself was very nice. While I was there Barry G and Doyle were in the "Salon" playing $4000-8000 mixed, so even the high rollers like it.

Ceasars was pretty good too. The room felt a little cramped, but the tournament area was very nice. I did hear some complaints from players at other locations that the card shufflers weren't working here, but they seemed to be fine at the ones I played at. The $1-2 NL table that opened for me was CRAZY, I was lucky to just get out with my buy-in..... One guy, who really needed to read a book on NL, dropped $1200.00 in less than an hour, it was sick......but then the ATM left and I started the $70 11pm tourney.

Anyway, those are some reviews of the newer rooms.
Hope this helps someone. :)
