Hold 'em or fold 'em? Even if you haven't the foggiest idea of which strategy is best, one safe bet is to attend Friday night's Western Casino and Poker Tournament at the Trail Dust Steakhouse, 7101 S. Clinton in Centennial, Friday, March 3, 2006. Proceeds go to the Double Angel Foundation of Parker.
"Everyone's playing poker these days, but it's only on this special night that you can play and give something back at the same time," says Lisa Schlereth, fundraising chairperson of the foundation, formed five years ago by Ken and Bambi Dixey following the loss of sons Dillon and Logan to carbon monoxide poisoning while houseboating on Lake Powell. The organization also raises awareness of the dangers of carbon monoxide.
Schlereth's husband, Mark, a former Denver Bronco who now works as an ESPN analyst, will host the benefit with the Dixey family. Tickets are $75 and include a buffet dinner, music, door prizes, poker and other casino games. In addition, guests can bid on a Jake Plummer-signed football and a John Elway-signed Hall of Fame helmet in a silent auction.
The foundation is nearly done building the first of two baseball fields at the Double Angel Ballpark in Parker. Baseball was a special love of the Dixley boys, and their parents are hoping more children can grow up with a love of the game.
Tickets can be ordered by calling the Double Angel Foundation, 303-841-2420, or online at doubleangel.org. Tickets can be purchased at the door, pending availability.
